This season, Amazing Race put relationships to the test, literally — pitting dating couples six of them already romantically involved and blind date pairs five of them against each other. For one thing, Keoghan didn’t expect to head into a finale with the majority of the final four remaining teams having met at the starting line. There’s a 75 percent chance the winners will be people who met three weeks ago — that’s crazy. Before we find out who takes home the crown, Keoghan jumped on the phone with ETonline to chat about the season that was and who he thinks is in the best position to take it all. You’ve been with The Amazing Race since the very beginning and you’ve seen it all. As the season played out, did it progress the way you thought it would have? No, but I can say that about any season of The Amazing Race. I’ve never had the ability to pick how the show is going to go and I think that’s part of why the show works. It’s always been unpredictable and in this case, with the blind date couples, it became even more so because there was a new variable.

You can only carry around your grandfather on The Amazing Race for so long before it starts to hit you, and it was clear that Nicholas was just working too hard.
Donald was a real trooper, and an engaging fellow, but I really hope that this experience has been of value to his grandson in terms of knowing when to calm down and when to maybe step back. Survivor is one of the toughest reality TV competitions out there, and the amount of backstabs, blindsides, and sometimes outright dirty gameplay we’ve seen on the show are uncountable. But even in the midst of all of this, relationships have blossomed on the show, and there are a number of Survivor couples that have left the long-running CBS series with a life partner.

The one interesting thing about them was that the longer the season went on, the more unpleasant they seemed to get, transitioning from basic-level vanity and self-interest to a genuine belief that they were a cut above everyone else. As you can see, that worked out brilliantly for me. Speaking of man-mountains: it also became clear when he spent the last couple of legs in tight trousers that Steve had one heck of a badonkadonk, which also did a lot for his appeal.
On top of that, their relationship felt genuinely relaxed and natural, and while I was sad to see them go out so early, I was also kind of relieved that they went before the pressures of the competition could start to have any sort of negative impact on their relationship. Some things are too precious to sacrifice to reality TV, and the happiness of my first crush is definitely one of those. That said, it was huge fun to watch how competitive Jenny got as they got closer to the end, to the point where it seemed genuinely possible that she would knock Jelani out and carry him on her back if she thought that would make the team as a whole move faster.
Frankly, it was a miracle they actually got any tasks completed because it seemed like they just wanted to abandon the round-the-world trip and lock themselves up in their sequestering hotel room for the weekend and get a few…things out of their systems. Also, they had hands-down the most hilarious intro shot in the title sequence where Jackie hurled herself at Jeff so forcefully, hungrily even, that she almost bodily knocked him right through the screen. Seriously, can we stop that? It just makes the final leg too crowded, and it feels too arbitary.
Theirs probably would have been the ultimate feelgood victory, and perhaps the Beekmans and Sweet Scientists of yesteryear gave me unrealistic expectations that it could happen, but sadly it was not to be.

Team SoCal talks their lack of romance, their influx of respect for one another, and what it’s like to dive into a mud pit with a stranger. Only their families knew that they were the ones to take home the top prize, beating out other Top 3 teams Jenny and Jelani and Hayley and Blair to take the million dollar prize back to Southern California. And these two were mere strangers before Phil forced them to do a mud run together!
Was that the case for you two? Tyler : Yeah, Laura and I were both really big fans of the race and that was probably the biggest thing that we were able to bond over in the very beginning. We always pressured ourselves to pick the right challenges and make the right choices because we felt like we had done our homework and knew which ones would be more difficult that the others.
How did you find yourself matched up with a stranger on The Amazing Race? And I said yes…. Tyler : My experience was pretty similar: I had just moved to California, and within the first week of being there, I was out at The Bungalow in Santa Monica and bumped into Lynne Stillman as well.
